My friend texted me a few days ago asking me if I'd been willing to wake up before the sunrise and go on a hike at Pickering Creek Audubon Center. I said, YES PLEASE! She's a photojournalist and needed photos for a magazine, and I was happy to tag along. I didn't love the fact that I would have had to get up at 5:30 A.M. but there is something about being up before the rest of the world and catching the sunrise. I enjoy getting ready in 5 minutes because I am half asleep, force feeding coffee down my throat, throwing on my boots, getting in my car while it's still dark, and the best part is seeing the pink streaks starting to rise in the sky as you drive to your destination.
Pickering Creek has a special place in my heart. I used to go there when I was a kid and I gained a love for the outdoors.
Today, the smells of the marshes and tree bark took me back. When I go on hikes I always feel like a little kid. Seeing nature as I did before; a beautiful, magical place. I'm instantly calmed. The sense of adventure overcomes me and I want to explore every inch of the land.
Today's adventure was a new one. I've never gotten up that early to go hiking. I honestly enjoyed getting up before the sun and I hope I can do it again soon.
